The former Augustinian monastry was founded in 1229 by Leuthold von Wildon was secularized in 1784 by emperor Josef the second.

In the year 1840 the Steiri prince, ore duke Johann of Austria, acquired the castle from the state.

The large castle cellar with its old vault is particularly suitable for events to the topic of wine.
